Lesson Description

In this art class, children will learn to replicate the drawing of a toucan bird. In order to do this, they will utilise the ‘grid’ technique. They will practise using a ruler to draw vertical and horizontal lines. When they follow the grid technique, children will discover that they can break down a complex drawing into simpler parts. Thus, children will be able to easily draw the simple shapes in each block. They will learn how to colour their drawing neatly using oil pastels. As they colour, they will apply various oil pastel techniques that they had previously learned. They will practise colouring neatly across the edge of the drawings.

The children will complete their artwork by outlining their drawing using a black oil pastel. After completing the class, they will understand that the grid technique can be used to create any drawing they want!
